Reverse Engineering
Reverse engineering is the process of creating drawings from an existing object.
This may be for making replacement copies of a part that is no longer available , or perhaps to make a new object to fit an existing part.
This process is done in steps that are performed in a loop.
- measure the original master part
- create a CAD model from the measurements
- 3d print the CAD model
- Measure the 3d print and compare it to the original master part
- make adjustments to the CAD model so that it more closely matches the original
- 3D print again
The process is repeated from step 3 until the original and the 3D printed copy are close enough to meet the customer requirements
